Gold Scars. 2020

This piece is part of my Victim to Victor project, where I explored healing through various mediums, inspired by Kintsugi—the Japanese art of mending with gold. My work involved actions like dipping dresses in plaster and punching them to symbolise abuse, then attempting to repair them with gold thread and beads. In a performance inspired by Marina Abramović, I stood still while participants threw liquids—wine, coffee, tea, beer—at me, staining my dress and symbolising the lasting effects of trauma. I also allowed them to cut the dress, then healed these wounds with gold thread.

This collection highlights the beauty in the healing process—the time it takes, the scars it leaves, and how, like Kintsugi, these scars make us stronger and more resilient.
